How To Remove Ink From MicroFiber Couches

Good news: 20 month old T is right on track with his developmental stage and can easily hold a pen and draw.

Bad news: 20 month old T can easily hold a pen and draw.

I was literally about 15 feet away when the drawing occurred. The problem is once I saw and jumped at him to get it away, he frantically scribbled as hard and fast as he could like he was trying to finish a secret message before being dragged away. So, while I had a healthy list of things to do on this beautiful fall day last week, my day quickly turned to finding a way to get black ink off my couch. I started with just a towel and water (that's what the wet mark is there on the right), since that has removed anything thus far from the couch. No cigar.

The solution? Hand sanitizer. Yep, that's it. It's the alcohol content, and it did a great job. Some people claimed that using the name brand, Purell, was the best, although I tried both Purell and a generic brand, and they both did the same job.

I wouldn't suggest dumping it on your couch for every cleaning (I'm pretty sure it could remove any scotch guard you might have), but for this extreme purpose, I had to believe anything would look better than the masterpiece left by my son. We have a warranty through R.C. Willey, but they won't cover ink:(

It took a bit of work. I used a clean dry towel and poured a little sanitizer onto it, then scrubbed little by little, frequently changing the area of the towel, so as not to smear the ink. I then used another clean wash cloth with warm water and scrubbed over the area. Then let the entire area dry, and did the entire process a second time.

You really have to look hard to see any traces of the mess. So, I say success! Now we'll just work on channeling our little Da Vinci's new found talent to paper only.

oh the joys of children, Carter has done that once, however it was a small line not a masterpiece, but we have a colored couch and he drew right on one of the darker lines so unless you look closely you'd never notice it. That stinks that RC Willey doesn't cover ink stains, but I am glad you found the solution.
