How to safely clean an LCD screen

Santa just may have stood in line at the Black Friday preview sale at Wal-Mart for a new LCD T.V. for us. Good thing he is 6'2 and over 200 lbs. He avoided being trampled or broken in any way....phew! He also decided he didn't have room in his workshop to store it, so he dropped it off a little early.

Yes, I'm enjoying it every minute when T is asleep, but it sits atop a stand that is totally in his reach, so needless to say I am a nervous wreck while he is awake. I just have to keep assuring myself that T is just like our kitty Lola (RIP) was. If something new was in the house she had to walk on it, sniff it, gnaw on the corner a little, rub her bum up against it, and then she'd leave it alone and it was as if it had always been there. It worked really well on T the first time we brought him home. Still though, I can't help but think, this is why people with children shouldn't own nice things.

So, with all this touching and rubbing up against the thing, I realized I didn't know how to clean an LCD, and didn't want to risk ruining the screen with super powered Windex. Here's what I found:

There are plenty of solutions you can purchase for cleaning, although, you know me, I'd rather something inexpensive and made at home. I also found a few different suggestions for these mixtures, but this guy from Geeks are Sexy really seemed to have done his homework by reading through loads of LCD manufacturer websites.

The mixture is simply equal parts of distilled water and 70% isopropyl alcohol

Tap water can cause mineral buildup, so it's certainly best to stick with distilled water. Mix the solution into a spray bottle, spray it onto a soft cloth, I like to use an old t-shirt, and then wipe down the screen. Do not use paper towels or anything rough, and always spray onto the cloth first, not directly onto the screen.

Thanks Santa, but just for the record, I am totally counting this as your Christmas gift. He's always watching games at our place! I bet you didn't know he was such a sports fanatic;)
